BERKELEY, Calif. – Led by sophomore Charlotte Ahrens, who earned a first place finish individually, the Arizona State triathlon team finished second at the West Regional Qualifier in the Bay Area.

Ahrens repeated as individual champion from last year's West Regional.

"It was another strong team performance and Charlotte repeated last year with the individual title," said head coach Cliff English. "Freshman Grace Obando also improved in her second race of the season and Catherine Giuseffi was the third score for the team, ensuring the team win, in her debut draft legal race as a freshman."

Freshman Grace Obando finished fourth, improving upon her sixth-place finish in Naperville earlier this month while fellow newcomer Catherine Giuseffi finished 15th in her first collegiate race.

Sophomores Delaney Bucker and Lillie Robinson also competed for the Sun Devils.

"We have a lot of depth on the team this year and we will continue to put in the necessary hard work leading up to the national championships in five weeks."

Prior to November's national championships in Tempe, the Sun Devils compete one more time next weekend in Sarasota, Fla. at the Eastern Regional Qualifier (Oct. 7).
