TEMPE, Ariz. – The 2017 Pac-12 champion Arizona State wrestling team announces their 2017-18 dual and tournament competition schedule, which will feature both historically perennial and current powerhouses as well as three top-12 and four top-20 dual foes from last year's NCAA's.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to compete this year," said head coach Zeke Jones, who was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year last season. "Adding teams like Pitt and Lehigh connects us to competing with some of the best teams on the east coast, along with teams like Ohio State and Michigan, who are both top five teams. We're ready to go and excited to get the season started."
After the Michigan State Open (Nov. 5) to start the regular season, the Sun Devils open their dual schedule at Michigan (Nov. 10) and Ohio State (Nov. 12), both of which finished top-10 at NCAA's last season, before returning home to Tempe.
Just before and after the Thanksgiving holiday, ASU will welcome Pitt (Nov. 19) in their home opener and South Dakota State (Nov. 26) to Wells Fargo Arena before two tournament weekends in December – Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite (Dec. 1-2) to start the month and Midlands (Dec. 29-30) to end the month and year.
After hosting North Carolina last season, the Sun Devils make a return trip to Tar Heel country on Jan. 7 to open 2018 before the Virginia Duals on Jan. 12-13.
Stanford (Jan. 19) and Oregon State (Jan. 21) open Pac-12 competition, both at home, followed by CSUB in Bakersfield, Calif. on Jan. 24. After Feb. 3's Edinboro Open and Senior Day vs. Lehigh on Feb. 9, the Sun Devils' Pac-12 and regular season finale will take place at Cal Poly on Feb. 11.
Two weeks later, Arizona State travels to Corvallis, Ore. and the campus of Oregon State for the Pac-12 Championships (Feb. 25). The NCAA Tournament, held this year in Cleveland, Ohio, culminates the season from Thursday Mar. 15-Sunday, Mar. 18.
A Maroon & Gold intrasquad weekend is also set for Friday, Oct. 27-Saturday, Oct. 28, with details forthcoming.
The Sun Devils return all five Pac-12 champions and NCAA competitors, including All-Americans Zahid Valencia and Tanner Hall, in 2017-18, also adding multiple newcomers and transfers including All-American Ryan Millhof and NCAA champion Jason Tsirtsis.
Season ticket holder renewals for 2017-18 opened last week and are now available HERE or by calling (480) 965-5333. Stay tuned HERE for when new season tickets will go on sale.
