Tempe, Ariz. – Following the Central Regional Qualifier in Naperville, Ill. earlier this week, several Sun Devils earned Regional honors in the first-ever such set of awards from the USA Triathlon Collegiate division.
Moving forward, each regional championship will honor the top freshman finisher per Division, as well as naming a three-member All-Region team for each Division.
Hannah Henry, by virtue of winning her first collegiate race, earned All-Region Freshman honors while Henry, Katie Gorczyca, and Kyla Roy were named to the Central Region All-Region Team following Monday's race.
The Sun Devils won their first race of the season as all seven competitors finished in order in the top seven. The win also secured the team a place in November's USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship in Tempe.
Henry, Gorczyca, and Roy will all three also compete for their countries (Gorczyca for USA and Henry/Roy for Canada) at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Finals next week in Rotterdam, Netherlands (Sept. 15, 16).
ASU next competes as a team on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Western Regional Qualifier in Berkeley, Calif.
