The sports medicine department is a multifaceted collection of allied health care professionals working together to provide the best possible health care to the student-athletes at Arizona State University. A major emphasis of the sports medicine department is on the prevention, evaluation procedures, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and student-athlete education and awareness on injuries and medical conditions.

Under the direction of Head Team Physician Dr. Steve Erickson and Head Athletic Trainer Gary Johnson, the Arizona State University Sports Medicine Department provides services to 20 athletic teams and over 500 student-athletes.

ASU employs four team physicians who all work closely with the athletic training staff. In addition, the sports medicine department networks with over 40 doctors and specialists on its Sports Medicine Advisory Team.
