    Women's Swimming Takes Second at Arena Invitational

    LONG BEACH, Calif./TUCSON, Ariz.—In a weekend that saw three victories and a several dozen NCAA B standard times set, the Arizona State women’s swimming team took second place at the Arena Invitational. The ASU women overtook 20 other teams for their second-place finish including Pac-12 opponents Stanford, UCLA, and Oregon State.

    The 400 free relay of Jaclyn Chavez, Cassie Morrice, Shannon Landgrebe, and Caroline Kuczynski solidified the second-place finish for the Sun Devil women, finishing the event in fourth place. The ASU relay swam the event in an NCAA B standard time of 3:20.52.

    In the women’s 200 back juniors Mattie Kukors and Lizzy Luttrell finished two and three for the Sun Devils with both swimmers earning NCAA B standard times. Kukors touched in with a time 1:57.48, while Luttrell finished with a time of 1:57.88. In the same event, senior Kelli Kyle finished in eighth with a time of 2:00.80.

    In the same event for the men, freshman Nolan Brown finished in 10th place with a time of 1:49.98.  At the Arena Invitational, the Sun Devil men finished in seventh place overall with a score of 428.

    Morrice and Landgrebe notched two more NCAA B standard times in the women’s 100 free. Morrice finished in fourth place with a time of 49.70, while Landgrebe finished sixth with a time of 49.90.


     

     

    Penelope Yamauchi and Jordan Green finished third and fourth in the women’s 200 back. Yamauchi swam the event in an NCAA B standard time of 2:13.80, while Green, also earning an NCAA B standard time, touched in with a time of 2:13.97.

    In the women’s 200 fly, Kuczynski finished in fifth place with an NCAA B standard time of 1:58.49. In the men’s 200 fly, freshman Zac Dalby finished in 10th place with a time of 1:49.55.

    At the Wildcat Invitational, Sun Devil diver Constantin Blaha finished in second place in the men’s 3-meter springboard with a score of 417.70. Blaha was three points shy of first-place finisher Brandon Watson of BYU. Senior Cameron Bradshaw finished the event in fourth place with a score of 371.60.

    On the women’s side, senior Elina Eggers finished in third place in the women’s 1-meter springboard with a score of 288.90. Sophomore Hailey Casper, who earned a victory the day before in the women’s 3-meter springboard, finished the 1-meter in sixth place with a score of 279.45.
