OMAHA, Neb.--Former Arizona State swimmer and Pac-12 Champion Nick Brunelli qualified for the semifinals in the men's 100 free Thursday morning in Omaha, Neb. but later failed to advance to finals in the event.
Brunelli qualified for the 100 free semifinals on Thursday, swimming a time of 49.63 for the 12th-best time of the morning. The top-16 swimmers qualify for semifinals. Later in the evening, Brunelli swam in the 100 free semifinals finishing 16th overall with a time of 49.85.
The Sun Devil alum excels in the freestyle events and enters the trials ranked fifth in the 50 free. The preliminary heat of the 50 free begins on Saturday. Brunelli earned 16 All-American honors while competing for Arizona State and won a Pac-12 Championship in the 200 free in 2004.
