TEMPE – The Arizona State University track and field program continues added to the depth in the women’s distance group with the addition of Kala Stone (Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada/South Kamloops Secondary School), who has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sun Devils, head coach Greg Kraft announced.
Stone is one of the top youth runners out of Canada and a solid middle distance runner that will join fellow Canadian Carly Paracholski on the Sun Devil squad.
The British Columbian logged Cananda’s third-ranked youth 1,500m time last season in a time of 4:34.55, as well as the fourth-quickest 3,000m mark in 10:03.8.
Stone also clocked a career best of 2:13.87 at 800 meters, which was the eighth fastest Canadian youth time in the event last year. Her times in the three events were the fastest in all of British Columbia amongst junior runners.
While strong in the middle distance events, Stone showed prowess in the longer runs as well after winning the 2012 British Columbia Junior Cross Country Championships.
ASU Distance Coach Ryan Cole on Stone:
“She’s of the top distance runners in Canada. We look forward to her coming in and contributing to our mid-distance group and watching her progress during the upcoming track and field season. She’s an athletic kid, maybe a bit underdeveloped, and will be able to contribute in cross country as well. “
