TEMPE – The Arizona State University track and field program added to its exceptional 2013 recruiting class with the addition of Cody Brazeal (Clovis, Calif./Buchanan HS), who has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sun Devils, head coach Greg Kraft announced.
Brazeal is the No. 7 returning miler in the US with his career best of 4:07.72, giving ASU two of the top seven returning milers in this years recruiting class as the he joins the nation’s top returning mile in Bernie Montoya. Brazeal possesses tremendous size and physical ability and will likely reach 4:03-4:05 mark this spring. He will be a tremendous asset in both cross country and track and field.
Brazeal was third at the California state meet in the mile last spring and raced future teammate Montoya at the Emerging Elite mile race in Eugene, Ore. The race was held during the Olympic Trials and featured several of the best milers in the high school ranks. Brazeal was sixth overall in the race, running 4:11.58.
Brazeal comes to ASU from the same high school that has produced the likes of Sun Devil distance great Casey Burchill and NCAA Champion and Olympian Kyle Alcorn, as well as current Sun Devils Macy Bricks and CJ Albertson and assistant coach Lauren Saylor.

ASU Men’s Distance Coach Louie Quintana on Brazeal:
“We are so very excited to add an athlete of Cody Brazeal’s caliber. He has a tremendous skill set as an athlete and is equally a high character individual. During the recruiting process it became extremely clear that this had to be the place for him to be. He was a must get for us and we are extremely excited to watch him and Bernie develop together. I’m excited to have Cody join the Sun Devil Track and Field Family!”
