TEMPE - The outdoor season will continue to roll along in Tempe this weekend as the Arizona State University track and field program will play host to the ASU Invitational on Friday and Saturday on Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium. The meet, the second outdoor meet of the year for the Sun Devils, will feature athletes from 14 different teams along with several outstanding individuals of international acclaim.

Along with the Sun Devils, representatives from the following schools will be on hand to compete: Baylor, Boise State, Georgia, Kansas State, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, South Dakota State, TCU, Texas A&M, UC Riverside, Utah (women) and Weber State. Five teams competing this weekend currently are in the latest USTFCCCA national Top 25 team rankings, including men’s teams #2 Texas A&M, #19 Kansas State and #23 Georgia with women’s teams including #1 Texas A&M and #16 Arizona State.

Along with a strong collegiate field, a large group of talented competitors on the international circuit will be on hand to compete, including a pair of U.S. Olympians in Sanya Richards and Jeremy Wariner. Richards, the 2009 World Champion at 400m, and Wariner, the 2009 World Silver Medalist at 400m, will both compete in the 200m dash. Richards currently ranks second in the world in the 200m while Wariner is tied for sixth.

The competition gets underway on Friday afternoon with the hammer throw at 1 p.m. (women followed by men) and the pole vault (men and women at the same time on two pits) at 6 p.m. Saturday, the discus will lead things off at 10 a.m. with running events getting underway at 5 p.m.

Last week, the Sun Devils played host to the Baldy Castillo Invitational and earned wins in nine events total, including Asia Gooden, who won the 100m dash and the 200m dash for the Sun Devils.

Next up for the Sun Devils will be the Jim Click Multi-Event meet in Tucson next weekend before ASU plays host to the 32nd Sun Angel Track Classic, April 7-9, in Tempe.
