TEMPE - The Arizona State University track and field program will hold open try-outs for current students on Wednesday, September 12, the program announced today. All students that are interested in participating in the try-out sessions need to read the following information and complete the needed paperwork:
Try-Out The try-out will take place on one day: Wednesday, September 12. Athletes are asked to be at Sun Angel Stadium, warmed up and ready to go by no later than 4 p.m. It is suggested that athletes arrive at least 45 minutes early to allow enough time to properly stretch and warm up. Athletes are also asked to wear regular workout clothing and running shoes (no spikes) and to also bring water.
On September 12, athletes will be asked to take two (2) attempts in the standing long jump and then will be timed one (1) time each in the flying 30-meter sprint and a standing 30-meter sprint before taking one (1) attempt in the 45-second sprint, which will see how far an athlete can run in 45 seconds. All athletes that will be trying out for throwing events (shot put, discus, hammer and javelin) will throw those implements on September 12 following the other events.
Before the Try-Out Prior to the try-out, each athlete is required to have necessary paperwork completed in full and submitted to the Sun Devil Track & Field Office, which is located on the second floor of the Carson Student-Athlete Center (south end of Sun Devil Stadium). If the paperwork is not completed in full and submitted to the coaching staff by Friday, September 7, at 2 p.m., that athlete will NOT be permitted to try-out. No exceptions will be made in any case.
The paperwork needed consists of one (1) purple form produced by the Sun Devil Compliance Office, one (1) copy of results from a physical and one (1) copy of results from a Sickle Cell test. The purple form can be found posted on the Sun Devil Track & Field Office door.
Once an athlete has obtained the needed signatures on the purple form, that athlete will need to take the purple form, along with his/her test results, to the Compliance Office, where they will be reviewed and receive the final signature. Athletes will need to see Susanna Tamol in the Compliance Office, which is also located on the second floor of the Carson Student-Athlete Center, to obtain the final signature.
Physicals can be done anywhere. The most convenient location for current students is at the Student Health Center on campus. The Sickle Cell test can also be taken at the SHC. It is strongly advised that candidates have both tests completed early as it takes 48 hours to receive test results. Even if an athlete has the tests done at the SHC before September 7, but does not have printed results to submit to the Compliance Office, the form will be considered incomplete and the athlete will not be permitted to try-out.
Notification of Team Selections A list of athletes who have been selected to join the program will be posted on the Sun Devil Track & Field Office front door no later than noon on Monday, September 17. No other announcements will be made.
Questions? Athletes with questions about the try-out procedures can contact Assistant Coach Lauren Saylor either in person in the Sun Devil Track & Field Office or by phone at (480) 965-9493.
