DAEGU, South Korea – Former Arizona State University distance runner Amy Hastings advanced to the finals of the 5,000-meter run at the IAAF World Championships on Tuesday in Daegu, South Korea.
Hastings clocked the sixth-fastest time of the preliminary heats in 15:29.49 to advance as a time qualifier to the finals, which are set to take place on Friday. Hastings, a 10-time All-American and 2007 graduate at Arizona State, finished sixth in the opening heat of the preliminary round and was the top American qualifier to reach the finals. Teammate Lauren Fleshman also advanced.
In the semifinals of the women's 400-meter hurdles, freshly departed standout Jasmine Chaney clocked a new personal best of 55.97 to finish seventh in her heat but did not advance to the finals. She finished 16th overall in the competition.
Chaney was an eight-time All-American at Arizona State and wrapped up her career in June with three All-America performances at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Thursday will see the defending long jump world champion and former ASU standout Dwight Phillips in action alongside U.S. Teammate - and also former Sun Devil - Trevell Quinley. Ryan Whiting, one of the top throwers to ever come out of Arizona State, will also be in action on Thursday.
