    Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 2 Arizona State University baseball team swept a doubleheader against Towson on Saturday at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. A crowd of 3,196 saw the Sun Devils improve to 6-0 on the season with the two victories.

The Sun Devils took Game One of the doubleheader 9-1. Jake Borup earned the win, allowing just one hit in six shutout innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. Mitchell Lambson got his first save of the season, pitching the final three innings and allowing just three hits and one run with three strikeouts.

Zack MacPhee had two hits, including his sixth triple of the season, while Riccio Torrez and Xorge Carrillo both hit home runs in the victory. It was the first career home run for Carrillo.

Torrez's two-run homer got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth, and he then scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to put ASU in front 3-0. Carrillo then hit a solo homer to lead off the seventh, and MacPhee brought in a run later in the same inning with a triple.

After Towson scored its only run in the top of the eighth, the Sun Devils added four more in the bottom of the inning. Zach Wilson had an RBI triple and then scored on a groundout by Carrillo, and Deven Marrero and MacPhee added RBI singles to cap off the scoring.

In Game Two, ASU jumped on the board quickly with five runs in the first inning on their way to an 11-6 win. MacPhee drove in a run with a single, Riccio Torrez had a two-run double and Raoul Torrez capped off the inning with a two-run single.

However, Towson would battle back to tie the game in the third, but the Sun Devils answered quickly with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Austin Barnes led off the inning with a solo home run, the first of his career, and then Riccio Torrez had a two-run single followed by an RBI double by Matt Newman.

Brady Rodgers got the win, going five innings out of the bullpen and allowing just five hits and one run with seven strikeouts. Jimmy Patterson made his first career start on the mound and got a no decision, going three innings and giving up seven hits and five runs.

The Sun Devils complete a four-game series with Towson on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
