No. 23 ASU Baseball Rallies Past No. 17 OSU, Completes Series Sweep

    April 7, 2012

    Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 23rd-ranked Arizona State baseball team scored five runs in the eighth inning to win, 5-1, and complete the series sweep over No. 17 Oregon State on Saturday afternoon in front of 2,622 fans at Packard Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

James McDonald drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth on a two-out RBI single up the middle and Max Rossiter followed with a three-run home run to left field to complete the Devils' (19-12, 6-6) late-game rally.

Right-hander Robert Ravago (3-0) earned the win after pitching the back-end of the seventh and all of the eighth, giving up no runs and no hits to go with two strikeouts.

Right-hander Darin Gillies threw three scoreless innings before giving up a leadoff double and an RBI single in the first two at-bats of the fourth inning. Left-hander Matt Dunbar replaced Gillies in the frame with runners on second and third and no outs, and retired the next three batters to keep the Devils' deficit at one.

Abe Ruiz added an RBI single in the eighth inning, scoring Andrew Aplin, who led off the frame with a base hit to right field.
