#6 Baseball Falls To Stanford 6-4

    April 30, 2011

    Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Stanford evened up their three-game series with Arizona State with a 6-4 win over ASU on Saturday night in Tempe. The Cardinal clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit, dropping the Devils to 30-10 on the year, 12-5 in Pac-10 play. It was Stanford's first win at Packard Stadium since 2003.

The Sun Devils struck in the bottom of the first inning on a Zach Wilson groundball to third that was thrown in the dirt past the first baseman, allowing Johnny Ruettiger and Riccio Torrez to score on the play.

Stanford would score in the top of third to tie the game at two when Stephen Piscotty singled to center driving in Austin Wilson and Tyler Gaffney. The Cardinal would add two more runs on a Sun Devil throwing error in the top of the fourth and again in the eighth on hits by Lonnie Kauppila and Brian Ragina to put the game out of reach for the Sun Devils.

Arizona State starter Kramer Champlin (6-2) went seven innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits while striking out five, but took the loss. Stanford starter Danny Sandbrink went the distance, striking out nine and allowing only five hits.

Riccio Torrez was 2-4 with three runs scored and Deven Marrero was 2-4 with two RBI.

The Devils and Cardinal will wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. from Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
