    Wildcats Drop Devils 5-4

    May 21, 2006

    Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - After having no trouble pushing runs across the plate the last two nights in Tucson, the Sun Devils bats were silenced for most of the nine innings on Sunday as they fell to the Wildcats 5-4 at Kindall Field. The loss drops the Devils to 33-19, 11-10 in the conference.

The Wildcats drew first blood off starter Pat Bresnehan in the bottom of the first inning. Brad Boyer started the inning with a triple down the right field line, then came home on a sacrifice fly by Colt Sedbrook to make it 1-0 UA.

The Devils responded in the fourth inning, scoring three times off Arizona starter Brad Mills. After Ike Davis led off the inning with a double off the left field wall, Brett Wallace homered to left to make it 2-1 ASU. Arizona State would add one more on a Joe Persichina RBI single that scored Preston Paramore for a 3-1 Devils lead.

The Cats would even things up in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff walk, Jason Donald doubled home a run, then was brought home by another double to make it 3-3. They would retake the lead in the fifth, chasing Bresnehan after the first two batters reached. An error and a single spelled the end for Bresnehan, who would be relieved by Josh Satow. Satow gave up a sac fly that made it 4-3, but would work out of the jam without further damage. Brad Glenn would add to the UA lead in the sixth, hitting a solo shot to left off Jeff Urlaub to make it 5-3.

The Devils would score one in the eighth on an RBI single by Willy Fox that cut it to 5-4, but it would not be enough as the Wildcats took the final two games of the series.

Bresnehan (3-3) took the loss while Mills (6-5) picked up the win. Matt Baugh earned his first save of the season. Arizona State committed three more errors, giving them 13 for the three-game series.

Willy Fox and Brett Wallace each had two hits to lead the Devils, who stranded 14 runners on base on the afternoon, including the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

The Devils now head home to wrap-up the regular season with a three game Pac-10 series against Cal at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
