ASU Baseball All-Decade Team: Jeff Larish

    Jan. 25, 2010

    TEMPE, Ariz. -

Arizona State Sun Devil Baseball will be naming an All-Decade Team for the 2000's. The 25-man roster is made up of players who played at least two seasons at Arizona State and who played in the past decade.

    Jeff Larish, INFIELD/OUTFIELD, 2002-2005
During his four years in Tempe, Jeff Larish blossomed into one of the most prolific power hitters in the long history of Arizona State baseball. Playing in 223 games, including 221 starts, Larish blasted 51 career round-trippers, second most in school history behind only Bob Horner. He was a .333 career hitter, totaling 283 hits, including 57 doubles. He was also a patient hitter, accumulating 200 walks in his four years, second most in ASU history. The McClintock High School product was a First Team All-American in 2003 and twice earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors. He also was named honorable mention All-Pac-10 twice. But perhaps Larish will best be remembered for his performance against Nebraska in the 2005 College World Series, when he bashed three home runs, tying a CWS record. He earned All-College World Series honors and was a fifth round pick of the Detroit Tigers in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his Major League debut with the Tigers in 2008.

From 2000 to 2009, Arizona State baseball won 433 games, 157 Pac-10 games, appeared in the NCAA Tournament in each year and reached the College World Series three times. The Sun Devils won four Pac-10 titles, including the last three, finished in the Top 5 in the nation three times and saw 47 players earn First Team All-Pac-10 honors. Over the past 10 years, ASU has had six Pac-10 Players of the Year, two Pac-10 Pitchers of the Year, two Pac-10 Newcomers of the Year, a Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, three Academic All-Americans, 33 All-Americans and a National Player of the Year. Since 2000, 78 Sun Devils have been selected in the MLB Draft.
