TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State shortstop Deven Marrero has been selected as a finalist for the Fan's Choice Award presented by TD Ameritrade. Each of the finalists were chosen for excellence both on and off the field, and for exemplifying core values such as teamwork and integrity.
Fans are encouraged to vote online through Facebook as they also have an opportunity to win. Every time a Sun Devil casts their vote for the "Fan's Choice Award," they'll be entered to win a VIP trip to the 2013 College World Series for two. Every vote is another entry in the sweepstakes and another chance to win. Fans can vote once per day.
The winner will be determined by fans through facebook voting and will be honored at the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby.
Marrero, a native of Davie, Fla., has a 3.56 GPA and is majoring in criminal justice, and was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team. He was the 2011 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a 2011 First Team All-Pac-10 honoree, while also excelling in the classroom, garnering 2011 Second Team Academic All-Pac-10 and 2011 Second Team Academic All-District VIII recognition.
He has earned all-conference accolades in each of his two seasons at ASU and set an ASU freshman record with his team-leading .397 batting average in 2010. A clutch performer under pressure, he had the game-winning walk-off single in the 12th inning of the 2010 Tempe Super Regional as a true freshman.
