TEMPE, Ariz. - Ten Arizona State student-athletes and 14 2013 signees were selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Four were taken on the first day, followed by seven on the second day and 13 on the final day.

This is the third consecutive year that ASU has had double-digit draft picks and the 18th time in program history.

Deven Marrero went to the Boston Red Sox with the 24th overall pick and is the highest Sun Devil draftee since 2009. Five Sun Devils were selected in the first five rounds of the draft for the first time since 1984, including Brady Rodgers and Andrew Aplin, who both went to the Houston Astros, Joey DeMichele to the Chicago White Sox, and Jake Barrett to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Both Rodgers, a native of Richmond, Texas, and Barrett, a native of Mesa, Ariz., went to their hometown teams.

Five Sun Devils were taken on the final day of the draft. First baseman Abe Ruiz was also drafted by the White Sox and right-handed reliever Robert Ravago was taken by the Miami Marlins. Both starting catchers from the 2012 season were drafted as Beau Maggi went to the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Max Rossiter. Former ASU baseball player and current ASU football player Brandon Magee also went to the Red Sox.

The ASU baseball program has now had 389 players drafted by the Major Leagues, which is the most all-time among NCAA schools. Former Sun Devil outfielder Rick Monday was the first-ever MLB Draft pick in 1965 when he was selected No. 1 overall by the Kansas City Athletics.
