POSTGAME NOTES: Sun Devils beat Coppin State 68-52

    Dec. 29, 2012

Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes

    THREES AND FREES AND MORE...
ASU attempted a season-high 30 three-pointers, and allowed Coppin State to go just 2-of-4 from the free throw line, which were season lows in both categories. The 30 three-point attempts is the most since ASU had 40 vs. Oregon on March 5, 2011...ASU is 10-0 this year and 83-21 when it outrebounds its opponent, as it beat Coppin State 41-29 on the boards...one year after going 7-10 at home ASU is 9-1 at home.

AT LEAST FIVE DAYS TO PREPARE
The Sun Devils are now 19-8 (.704) in past six years when Herb Sendek and his staff have at least five full days in between games, and seven of the wins have been against teams that would make the NCAA Tournament in that season (3-0 this season).

    STARTING LINEUP CHATTER
For the 13th straight game, ASU started Jordan Bachynski, Jahii Carson, Carrick Felix, Jonathan Gilling and Evan Gordon. Last year ASU used 12 starting lineups, the most since the 2003-04 team also started 12.

    TALKING BLOCKS
In the first 197 games of Coach Sendek's ASU tenure, ASU had nine blocks in a game four times. It has had at least nine blocks seven times this season, including 10 vs. Coppin State.

Of his 59 blocks, more than 60 percent (37) have resulted in direct possessions for ASU, and only six have gone out of bounds. He has now 120 career blocks, seventh in Sun Devil history. The Sun Devil career record is 191 (Mario Bennett from 1991-95). Next up is Jeff Pendergraph, who had 131 from 2005-09. Also, in the first 41 games of his ASU career Jordan shot 42-of-88 (.478) from the field, but in the past 26 games he is 94-147 (.640).
