    Retired Jerseys

Wilford "Whizzer" White and Bobby Mulgado were the only former Sun Devil football players to be honored by the retirement of their jerseys until a few years ago when White's son Danny had his No. 11 retired on Sept. 20, 1997.

White played for the Sun Devils from 1947 to 1950, leading the nation in rushing and all-purpose running in 1950. His numeral, 33, was retired upon his graduation in 1951. White is the father of Danny White, who starred at ASU from 1971-73.

Mulgado lettered four times for the Sun Devils from 1954 through 1957. Mulgado led the nation in punt returns and extra points and finished second nationally behind teammate Leon Burton in scoring. His maroon and gold jersey, number 27, was retired by the student body in 1958.

Other names to be placed on the facade of the Sun Devil Stadium Press Box include John Jefferson, Ron Pritchard, Pat Tillman and Randall McDaniel. Jefferson, Pritchard and McDaniel were honored when they were selected to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana. Tillman was recognized in a ceremony on Nov. 13, 2004 after losing his life in Afghanistan where he was serving his country.

All are members of the Arizona State University Sports Hall of Fame.

Only the uniform numbers of Tillman (42), Whizzer White (33), Danny White (11) and Mulgado (27) are officially retired and will not be issued again.
