ASU Football Announces 2003, 2004 and 2005 Schedules

    Jan. 31, 2003

TEMPE, Ariz. - Six home games, including matchups with USC, Oregon and arch-rival Arizona, highlight a 12-game 2003 football schedule for Arizona State University, Sun Devil Director of Athletics Gene Smith announced Friday. Football schedules for 2004 and 2005 were also released.

ASU plays four of its first six games of the 2003 campaign at home at Frank Kush Field/Sun Devil Stadium and plays four of the last six games on the road in 2003.

In a second successive 12-game regular-season schedule as approved by the NCAA, ASU will open the season, its third under head coach Dirk Koetter, at home versus Division I-AA foe Northern Arizona on Sept. 6. NAU was a replacement for Central Michigan, which dropped ASU from its 2003 schedule. The Sun Devils remain at home on Sept. 13 versus Utah State, a replacement for San Diego State, which dropped ASU as well.

ASU travels to Iowa City, Iowa, to face the 2002 Orange Bowl participant Hawkeyes on Sept. 20 and then opens Pacific-10 Conference play on the road against Oregon State on Sept. 27. Then, ASU returns home to open league play at Sun Devil Stadium with 2002 BCS team USC on Oct. 4. The Devils remain at home the following weekend (Oct. 11) versus 2001 Pac-10 Champion Oregon.

ASU returns to the road Oct. 18 at Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina and again on Oct. 25 at UCLA in the Rose Bowl. On Nov. 1 ASU plays host to California for Homecoming. Then its back on the road for two games - Nov. 8 at Stanford and Nov. 15 at 2002 Pac-10 Champion Washington State.

The Sun Devils close out the regular season at Frank Kush Field versus Arizona on Friday, Nov. 28.

Times for the games will be announced in the summer or next fall, however, the NAU and Utah State games are guaranteed to kick at 7 p.m. MST.
