TEMPE, Ariz. – Two former Sun Devil football players and one former coach have been named to the National Football Foundation’s 2012 Football Bowl Subdivision Ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Linebacker Bob Breunig, defensive end Al Harris, and coach Darryl Rogers were all nominated for the ballot, which is voted on by members of the NFF and current Hall of Famers nationwide.
The FBS Hall of Fame Class will be announced live in New York City during a noon press conference on May 15 and inducted at the 55th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 4, 2012 at the landmark Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Breunig played for Arizona State from 1972-74. During his tenure, he helped ASU to the 1972 WAC title and to consecutive Fiesta Bowl wins in 1972 and 1973. He was named 1974 First Team All-America selection, as well as All-WAC three times. Breunig currently ranks third all-time in career solo tackles (206) and fifth in career tackles (353) at ASU.
Al Harris, a defensive end from 1975-78, was named unanimous First Team All-American, and was a finalist for both the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy in 1978. Harris set the record for sacks with 19 in 1978.
Darryl Rogers coached at Arizona State from 1980-84, before which he was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1977 and National Coach of the Year by Sporting News in 1978 while he was at Michigan State.
