TEMPE— Arizona State University defensive lineman Will Sutton was named the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl Pac-12 Player of the Week following his dominant defensive effort in the Sun Devils’ 27-17 victory over California on Sept. 29 in Berkeley, Calif.

Sutton finished the game with eight tackles, four of which came for a loss of 27 yards and forcing three sacks for 24 yards in the process.  His four tackles for loss were a major factor in the Sun Devils' defense holding Cal to 285 yards of total offense, including 126 passing and 159 rushing. The Golden Bears were averaging more than 400 yards of total offense entering the game. Sutton was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the effort as well.

On the year, Sutton has 34 total tackles and 10.0 tackles for a loss of which 6.5 have been sacks.  His total tackles currently rank second on the team while he leads the team in tackles for loss and sacks.

Sutton's 1.30 sacks per game are tied for second in the conference and rank eighth nationally. He is also second in the Pac-12 and ninth nationally in tackles for loss per game with at 2.0.

The MAACO Bowl Las Vegas is now in its second season of conducting weekly Facebook player-of-the-week polls, driven by fan votes, that recognize exemplary on-field play within the two Bowl affiliated conferences, the Pac-12 and Mountain West.  This is the second consecutive week a Sun Devil has earned the Pac-12 honor after Taylor Kelly was named the selection for the Pac-12 after last week’s victory over Utah at home.

Each week, players from both the Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences will be selected for nomination and then posted for voting. All college football fans are welcome to cast their vote starting on Monday each week for Player of the Week at www.facebook.com/lvbowl.

Winners will be announced Wednesday afternoons. Two players, sans any ties, will be announced as their respective conference's MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Player of the Week.
