Karlee Owens, Women’s Cross Country, has exemplified The Sun Devil Way – she has not given up despite having to overcome an injury that has prevented her from competing and contributing to her team. Instead, she persevered through some challenging situations, competing in a much different way than planned. She has been resilient in the face of the struggle and has pushed herself to continue to excel academically as a Biology major in the Honor’s College. Karlee has even made it a point to give back to the community by helping with Feed My Starving Children half a dozen times since the start of the semester, contributing positively in spite of her own personal disappointment.
Kate Sangster is a senior defender that just finished her college soccer career. She has done a great job both an off the field as a Sun Devil. Kate earned her way into the starting lineup this year, starting in 12 of 16 games. Kate is described as consistent and plays hard. “Kate rarely gets credit for doing all the right things but she does all the little things to be successful. She works hard, plays hard and does everything she is asked with no complaints.” Kate has been actively seeking spring internship opportunities and will graduate next spring with a dual degree in Sociology and Justice Studies.
Preston is a freshman from Georgia that has grown tremendously both personally and in the classroom in the last month. He took ownership for his actions and is now going above in beyond in anything he is asked to do. He also won his match in the ASU wrestle-offs after being notified at the last minute that he needed to participate. Preston will likely redshirt this season, but looks to be a significant contributor on the mat and in the classroom in the years to come. He is a great example that determination and perseverance can pay off in the classroom.
Trevor Williams, a member of the ASU Baseball team, is having an outstanding semester to date. After having a difficult freshman year academically he has completely turned things around in the classroom and is currently earning all A’s and B’s in his classes. He is on track to achieve his first ever 3.0 GPA. Trevor is coming off of a stellar freshman campaign on the diamond earning Freshman All-American Honors and PAC-10 Honorable Mention. He appeared in a team high 32 games with a 2.50 ERA.
