Dec. 1, 2011
TEMPE, Ariz. - Sun Devil student-athletes partner with organizations in the Phoenix area to help give back to the community. Here is a look at upcoming events on Friday, Dec. 2.
Phoenix Fantasy Flight
A Fantasy Flight is a charitable event that takes place around the holidays in several United Airlines cities. Each station chooses a deserving group of children to host at the event. The children board a designated flight and depart to the "North Pole," then return to a different gate decorated for them to meet Santa, receive gifts and refreshments. The gift bags include toys as well as blankets, gloves, hats, toothbrushes etc.
In their eighth year of helping, Sun Devil student-athletes will volunteer as hosts of this charitable event to help provide children with a once in a lifetime experience. After a short flight, the plane will return to a separate gate decorated as "Santa's Winter Wonderland" where our student-athletes, the Phoenix Police and K-9 Unit and the Phoenix Fire Department will greet the children and lead them through 18 stations decorated in various holiday themes.
Cena en el Barrio
Coors Light annually helps provide holiday meals to hundreds of Phoenix families in need with the help of Food City, Foundation for Parkinson's and Neurological Reseach, Chicanos por la Causa and Crescent Crown Distributing.
A volunteer experience that reaches approximately 1,700 families, Sun Devil Athletics staff and student-athletes will assemble food baskets at the North end of Sun Devil Stadium in preparation for distribution.
Cena en el Barrio is a partnership with local community based organizations in Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston.
