TEMPE, Ariz.--The Arizona State women's golf team joined together with the LPGA Golf Club and the First Tee program Saturday morning to bring the game of golf to several lucky young girls from around the Phoenix area.

The goal of the First Tee program is to bring the game of golf and its inherent values to young people through special programs, like the one with the Sun Devils.

"Service is one of our main pillars in the ASU Athletic Department, `Sun Devils Serve'," said Arizona State head coach Melissa Luellen. "I think all of the athletes, especially our golfers, want to turn around and support the community, knowing how lucky they are to come to ASU, play golf and get a great education."

The Sun Devil golf team taught a group of approximately 60 girls, ranging from ages 5-12, several skills of the golf game. The Hobbs training facility was broken up into two areas where groups of girls practiced hitting long balls, while others practiced their short game on the team's putting green.

"I think our players saw how these little girls responded and looked up to them," said Luellen. "I think they understood they are role models to these young girls. We will do this again and again. Today was a great day."
