TEMPE, Ariz. -- With excitement in the air for the 2012 season, the Sun Devil soccer team wasted no time in beginning its preparations for the upcoming campaign as head coach Kevin Boyd kicked off the squad's preseason training with a midnight practice on Wednesday.
The workout, which lasted a little more than 90 minutes, consisted of a few drills and was followed by a contest between the returning members of the team against the squad's newcomers. The ensuing result was a 1-1 draw after 60 minutes of spirited play.
"I was very pleased," Boyd said. "I thought our newcomers showed what they could do. They were very good.
"I told the team that we are twice as good as we were last spring. Our depth has improved significantly. It's without a doubt the deepest group I've seen since I've been here."
The Sun Devils return 2011 Pac-12 honorable mention senior midfielder Taylor McCarter and welcome 13 new players into the program.
