Freshmen Leighann Sahagun and Joanna Smith each handily earned victories on the day in the Singles Invitational draw of the tournament. Sahagun blanked Oregon’s Lena Mae Macomson, 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round, while Smith defeated Colorado’s Ashley Tiefel, 6-1, 6-1.

The second round of singles competition was hampered due to inclement weather and will continue tomorrow from the Ojai Valley Country Club.
