Hein Falls During Second Round of NCAA Singles Championship

    May 27, 2010

Micaela Hein of the Arizona State women's tennis team's season came to an end as she fell in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Singles Championship. After picking up a 7-5, 6-0 upset win over Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State, Hein dropped her second round match 6-1, 6-1 to No. 40 Bianca Eichkorn of Miami.

"Micaela pressed the entire time, which is unlike her," said 26th year head coach Sheila McInerney. "She had too many unforced errors and didn't get a chance to come back after falling behind. It was still great for to be one of the top 32 left and it is a great start for next season."

Hein entered the NCAA Singles Championship ranked 50th. After playing No. 3 singles early in the season, Hein quickly became a mainstay at the top of the lineup, where she enjoyed upsets over No. 6 Yasmin Schnack of UCLA and No. 38 McCall Jones. She was named to the Pac-10 Second Team.
