2x All-American Cako Falls at ITA All-American Championship

    Oct. 4, 2012

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.—Arizona State junior and two-time All-American Jacqueline Cako fell in the first round of competition of the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, Thursday, held at the Rivera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Cako, facing third-seed Lauren Embree of Florida, dropped the match in two sets going 6-2, 6-3. The 13th-ranked player in the nation earned an invitation to bypass the qualifying round for the prestigious tournament based on her initial preseason standing.

Cako returned to the All-American Championships as last season’s tournament finalist, narrowly missing the tournament victory falling to Florida’s Allie Will in three sets. Last season, Cako defeated a string of top-ranked players including reining NCAA Singles Champion and then No. 1-ranked Jana Juricova of California in the quarterfinals of the All-American Championships.

Cako the first two-time tennis All-American (’11, ’12) for Arizona State since Adria Engel earned three-straight honors from 2001-03. The junior is also a member of the prestigious Barrett Honors College and plans to graduate in three years with a degree in bioscience en route to medical school.
