Women's Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors for Fifth-Straight Season

    July 10, 2012

    2012 ITA All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz.—For the fifth-straight season, the Arizona State women’s tennis team was named to the ITA Division I All-Academic Team. The Sun Devils recorded a 3.63 team GPA for the 2011-12 season, well above the ITA criteria of a cumulative GPA above 3.2.

Individually, the Sun Devils had seven athletes earn ITA Scholar Athlete honors. Seniors Sianna Simmons and Michelle Brycki, juniors Hannah James and Nicole Smith, and freshmen Clare Frye, Leighann Sahagun and Joanna Smith all earned honors from the ITA.

Simmons, who earned first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors last month, has received ITA Scholar recognition for three-consecutive seasons. A native of Atlanta, Ga., Simmons graduated in May with a degree in Global Studies.

The Arizona State tennis team was also recently honored by the NCAA for recording a perfect 1000 APR score for the eighth-consecutive season. The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
