SKILLMAN, N.J. – Arizona State junior women’s tennis player Jacqueline Cako was named to the main draw of the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Cako earned the invitation based on her preseason ranking of 13th in the nation.
“Jacqueline is excited to be selected for the prestigious All-American Championships,” said head coach Sheila McInerney. “As a finalist last year she has fond memories of the tournament and hopes to go one round farther.”
Cako returns to the All-American Championships as last season’s tournament finalist, narrowly missing the tournament victory falling to Florida’s Allie Will in three sets. Last season, Cako defeated a string of top-ranked players including reining NCAA Singles Champion and then No. 1-ranked Jana Juricova of California in the quarterfinals of the All-American Championships.
“As a two-time All-American I know Jacqueline has her sights on a great team and individual year,” said McInerney. “She will be graduating in May and wants to make her final collegiate season one to remember.”
Cako is the first two-time tennis All-American (’11, ’12) for Arizona State since Adria Engel earned three-straight honors from 2001-03. The junior is also a member of the prestigious Barrett Honors College and plans to graduate in three years with a degree in bioscience en route to medical school.
