TEMPE, Ariz. – After winning its second tournament of the season on the road, the Arizona State volleyball team will head to the Sunflower State to participate in the University of Kansas’ Jayhawk Invitational starting on Friday.

The team’s 6-0 record also marks the best start since 1997, fourth-best in program history and the best under head coach Jason Watson, who was hired in 2008. The win streak is the fifth-most in program history and ties for the best under Watson.
Last time out: ASU saw stellar performances in California, despite starting slow the Devils rallied to another spotless 3-0 weekend.

Alexis Pinson posted 10 blocks at UC Irvine, pushing her season tally to 30. Not only does the outing rank second this season for single-match blocks, it rings in at seventh all-time at ASU in single match records.

Macey Gardner is a force to be reckoned with. The freshman already has three double-doubles, all on the road and two last weekend. Her 28 kills at UC Irvine hit the ASU records in freshman (t1st) and all-time match highs (17th). Put that in perspective, she is second in the Pac-12 in kills (4.67/set) and leads all freshman in the conference in kills and points.
Erica Wilson is a powerhouse. Since moving to OH, the senior is dominating. In the conference, she ranks fourth in kills with 4.33 per set (104 total), first in service aces, 16 total for 0.67 per set and first in points with an average of 5.38.
About the Wyoming Series
ASU leads the series 7-2 dating back to 1976. The last time the two teams met was 2009 when the Devils won 3-1, in Jason Watson’s second season at ASU.
About the Kansas Series
This is the first time the two teams will meet. Arizona State is 8-9 against teams in the newly formed Big 12 and 1-1 against teams from the state of Kansas (KSU 0-1, WSU 1-0).
About the College of Charleston Series
ASU has met the Cougars just once before, in 2006 when the Sun Devils came out on top, 3-1.
Preach and Gardner UCI/LMU All-Tournament
Stephanie Preach and Macey Gardner were named to their second consecutive All-Tournament Team, this time to the UCI/LMU Dual Classic. Gardner led the squad with 68 kills for 5.67 per set. Preach had 64 digs over the weekend and is third in the Pac-12 with 4.92 digs on the season.
Can’t Get Past Pinson
Alexis Pinson recorded a team-best 12 block assists at the UCI/LMU tournament, including 10 at LMU to help the Sun Devils rally back to win, 3-1. On the year she leads the club with 30 total blocks for 1.25 per set. As of 9/4 she ranks eighth in the Pac-12 for blocks. Her 10 blocks at UCI is second in the conference for single-match high of blocks (behind Utah’s Erin Redd’s 13).
Gardner Ties Frosh Kill Record
Macey Gardner tied ASU’s freshman single-match kill record, with 28 at UC Irvine, tying Sarah Reaves who posted the same in 2007. The 28 kills also ranks 17th all-time in single match records.
