    WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
Macey Gardner of the Arizona State volleyball team was named the Pac-12 Volleyball Freshman of the Week for the week of Sept. 10-16, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Joining Arizona State's Gardner on the weekly honor roll is Arica Nassar of Oregon State (Offensive Player of the Week) and Marcelina Glab of Washington State (Defensive Player of the Week).

This is the 17th all-time weekly selection for the Sun Devils and just the second time ASU has had a Freshman of the Week, the last being Nora Tuioti-Mariner on Nov. 14, 2011. Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Pac-12 Conference began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the second year the conference has announced an offensive, defensive and rookie honoree.

Gardner has compiled a lengthy trophy case already, being named to four All-Tournament Teams this fall including being honored as the Most Valuable Player this past weekend at ASU's Sheraton Invitational.

Looking at her stat line, Gardner has a team-best 241 kills and averages 4.82 kills per set. Defensively she ranks second on the club in digs (127) and has recorded 20 total blocks on the year. In the Pac-12, Gardner has posted the most kills in a single match (28 at UC Irvine), fifth most kills in a match (24 vs. Gonzaga) and is third overall in points with 5.17 per set.

Gardner has six double-doubles on the year, a team best, while fellow freshman Allison Palmer has recorded four of her own. She has already made a dent on the ASU record book, tying the previous freshman record of single-match high kills, 28 at UC Irvine, previously recorded by Sarah Reaves in 2007. That tally ties for 17th in individual match records and second in rally scoring records.
