The sixth-ranked women's water polo team defeated CS Monterey Bay 12-4 March 7 at the Cal Lutheran Spring Classic in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Otters are the first unranked team the Sun Devils (10-5, 0-0) have faced this season.
After each side scored a goal in the first frame, ASU bombarded the opposition with 11 goals over the following three quarters. They found the back of the net four times in both the second and third stanzas, and added three in the final quarter to come away with an eight-goal victory.
Junior attacker Lynlee Smith paced the Sun Devil offense with four goals, while freshman center Shannon Haas contributed a hat trick. Junior center Nikki Unbehaun scored a pair of goals and sophomore center Bella Morrison recorded her third goal in as many games.
The Sun Devils take on top-ranked Division III Pomona-Pitzer March 7 at 4:00 p.m. (PST) at Samuelson Aquatic Center in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
